Anti-Poaching

Nine Realms Canine Training is actively involved in anti-poaching and conservation efforts in Grumeti, Tanzania. The Grumeti Fund, Working Dogs for Conservation, American Society of Canine Trainers, and Nine Realms Canine Training work together to provide funding, trained canines, and handler instruction for the Grumeti Fund Canine Handlers. The project was started in September 2017 and has been incredibly successful with tracking and locating poachers that enter the Grumeti Reserve and Serengeti National Park.

The Grumeti Fund currently has six handlers and four dogs in operation. These dogs are trained for detection on ivory, bush meat, hippo teeth, ammunition, weapons, snares, and article searches. Three of the four dogs are tracking dogs used to track poachers that enter the reserve and park. Watch the video below to learn more about the beginnings of this program.
